Fittante talks about efforts to bring U.P. economy back, urges businesses to apply for PPP

InvestUP CEO Marty Fittante says hospitals in the U.P. are ready to continue non-essential procedures. He says hospitals in the Upper Peninsula are hurting financially and are prepared to handle the Coronavirus crisis and still be able to manage the healthcare needs of the rest of the population. He also urges U.P. businesses not to wait to apply for Payroll Protection Program funds.



Players de Noc presents a virtual performance of original play 'Bare Cabin'

Players de Noc is having a virtual performance of a local play written by JJ Spaulding. It is called "Bare Cabin." Jamie Peterson says it will be performed from the actor’s homes at a time we are isolated. The premiere will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, on the Players de Noc Facebook page. It will also be posted on Youtube that will be linked from PlayersdeNoc.org.



McBroom worries about U.P. as governor considers stay home extension

State Sen. Ed McBroom says he expects to know within the next two weeks whether the Coronavirus becomes a burden on the healthcare system in the Upper Peninsula or if social distancing works and keeps the disease more manageable. However, as the governor considers extending the stay at home order, McBroom worries that the effect on the U.P. economy will be far greater.



Escanaba couple return from Honduras, concerned for friends they left

Tim and Julie Bishop were stranded in Honduras when the country closed its borders to fight the spread of the Coronavirus. Tim talks about what they went through to get out of the country and the concern he has for those they left. The Escanaba couple was in Honduras on a mission trip.



Robomos robotics team produces parts to make medical face shields

Robomos advisor Gabe Kluka talks about the teams effort to make face shields for OSF Healthcare with 3-D printers. It is their effort to help during the Coronavirus pandemic. They are teaming up with Kobasic Creations to add the clear plastic. 



Area schools prepare for remaining school year without classrooms

Local school districts need to develop plans to instruct students for the remainder of the school year without returning to the classroom. Doug Leisenring, superintendent of the Delta Schoolcraft Intermediate School District, talks about the school districts are doing to provide online learning.



Community officials talk about need to practice social distancing

With concerns that residents are not taking social distancing seriously, Escanaba City Manager Patrick Jordan, Delta County Administrator Emily DeSalvo and Delta County Emergency Management Coordinator Paul Geyer talk about the need for better compliance of social distancing to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
