In College Basketball last night, the Bay College women downed Alpena Community College 69-55.  Haley Trudell scored a game high 23 points, including seven three-pointers, for the Lady Norse who improve to 7-1 on the season.

In High School Hockey last night, the Escanaba Eskymos opened their season with a 4-1 victory over the Kingsford Flivvers at the Mountain View Arena in Iron Mountain. Kyle Krutina scored two goals and assisted on a third for the Eskymos, who welcome the Houghton Gremlins to the Wells Sports Complex tonight.  Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.

In High School Volleyball last night, the Carney-Nadeau Wolves had their season ended in the Division 4 state quarterfinals by Rudyard 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-11.  Rudyard is making its first state semifinal appearance in school history tomorrow against Leland at 2:00 in Battle Creek.

In High School Football over the weekend, the Iron Mountain Mountaineers won a Division 7 regional championship, downing Traverse City Saint Francis 21-7.  Iron Mountain will play Pewawmo-Westphalia in a state semifinal Friday night at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

In High School Volleyball regional semifinal action last night, the Escanaba Eskymos had their season ended in straight sets by Kingsley 25-10, 25-20 and 25-12 in Division 2 at Manistique.  In Division 3 at Escanaba, the Manistique Emeralds rallied to top Calumet 25-23, 19-25, 21-25, 25-11 and 15-13.

The Michigan High School Volleyball tournament moves into the regional stage this week.  In a Division 2 regional semifinal tonight, the Escanaba Eskymos tangle with Kingsley at Manistique High School at 6:00.  In Division 3 at Escanaba High School, Manistique faces Calumet and in Division 4 at Westwood, Carney-Nadeau will meet Mid Peninsula.

In High School Football over the weekend, The North Central Jets had their season ended by the Pickford Panthers 22-14 in an 8-man Division 2 regional football championship game.  The Panthers will host Hillman in a state semifinal this Saturday.  The Jets finish the season at 10-1.

In High School Volleyball last night, Mid Peninsula captured the first district championship in school history, sweeping Rapid River 25-11, 25-17 and 25-11.  The Wolverines will face Carney-Nadeau in a Division 4 regional semifinal Tuesday night after the Wolves won their 4th straight district title over Stephenson 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-13.

In High School Volleyball last night, Escanaba defeated Kingsford in a Division 2 district semifinal 25-23, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-20.  The Eskymos will face Menominee for the district championship tomorrow night in Menominee after the Maroons ended Gladstone's season 25-19, 25-20 and 25-23.

In High School Volleyball district tournament action tonight, Escanaba visits Kingsford and Gladstone travels to Menominee in Division 2 semifinals.  In Division 3, Bark River Harris goes to Gwinn and Manistique welcomes Ishpeming.  And in Division 4, Mid Peninsula is at Superior Central, Carney-Nadeau entertains Forest Park and Rapid River faces Munising.

The High School Volleyball District Tournaments began last night.  In Division 2, Kingsford outlasted Houghton in five sets 25-12, 21-25, 14-25, 25-16 and 17-15.  Kingsford will host Escanaba tomorrow night in one district semifinal while Gladstone visits Menominee in the other.

The Escanaba Eskymos saw their football season come to an end Saturday with a 35-12 loss to the Cadillac Vikings.  Cadillac advances to the district championship game at Soo Saint Marie this coming Saturday.  The Eskymos finish their season with a record of 7-3.

The High School Football state playoffs begin tonight around the Upper Peninsula.  The North Central Jets welcome Forest Park, Bark River Harris travels to Ishpeming,  and Negaunee is at Calumet.  Tomorrow, the Escanaba Eskymos host the Cadillac VIkings.
