The Detroit Lions have traded Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles for a pair of draft picks after signing cornerback Desmond Trufant to a two year deal.  The Lions will get 3rd and 5th round picks in this year's draft, where they now have nine selections overall and four of the draft's first 85 picks.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association Office in East Lansing is temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.  The MHSAA has not officially canceled the basketball and hockey tournaments, nor canceled the spring sports season.

Sportscast Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The Bay College baseball and softball seasons are over.  The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced spring sports seasons have been cancelled because of the coronavirus.  Both Norse teams recently returned from Florida.  The baseball team went 4-8 in the Sunshine State, while softball went 6-6.  The NJCAA did add another year of eligibility to athletes as part of the cancellation announcement.

Sportscast Monday, March 16, 2020

The 82nd annual Gold Medal Classic Independent Basketball Tournament has been postponed due to the coronavirus.  The tournament had been scheduled to be held March 19-29 in Hermansville.  The new dates for the tournament are April 16-26.

Sportscast Friday, March 13, 2020

The Michigan High School Athletic Association has suspended all postseason tournaments effective immediately and indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.  Included are boys and girls basketball, hockey and gymnastics.  More information is expected over the next few days.

Sportscast Wednesday, March 11, 2020

In High School Girls Basketball last night, the Escanaba Eskymos saw their best season in 20 years come to an end with a 62-51 loss to Sault Sainte Marie in the regional semifinals at Manistique.  Mari Bink led four players in double figures with 15 points for the Eskymos, who finish the season with a record of 13-8.

Sportscast Tuesday, March 10, 2020

In High School Boys Basketball district openers last night, Marquette downed Petoskey 82-70 in Division 1, Menominee defeated Houghton 69-53 in Division 2, Bark River Harris fell to Munising 49-40 and Manistique lost to Negaunee 65-45 in Division 3, while in Division 4, North Central routed Republic-Michigamme 82-46 and Carney-Nadeau beat Forest Park 59-37.

Sportscast Monday, March 9, 2020

In High School Gymnastics over the weekend, Escanaba placed 7th at the state regional tournament in Grand Rapids.  Abbie Derouin and Madison Block qualified in the vault competition for the individual state meet this weekend at Rockford.

Sportscast Monday, March 2, 2020

The Escanaba High School Boys Bowling team took 2nd place at the Division 2 regional tournament over the weekend in Gaylord.  Escanaba finished with 3,719 pins, one spot behind regional champion Cadillac with 3,873.  The Eskymos move on to the state finals this coming weekend in Waterford.
